Idaho State Museum Homeschool Days
Homeschool students and their families are encouraged to explore the Museum and experience the stories of Idaho on selected Homeschool Days each month from 10am – 3pm.
Join us on the first Friday and third Wednesday of each month! Please note: We will not be hosting this program on some dates due to events happening in Julia Davis Park.
Admission is $4 per student (Youth 2 and up) and adults/teachers in a 1:1 ratio are $5, any additional adults must pay regular admission. For ISHS Members, admission is $2 per student (Youth 2 and up) and all adults are $2.50. Preregistration is required; Walkups will not be accommodated. Payment is due at the time of reservation and is non-refundable.
To ensure an enjoyable experience for all participants, we are implementing timed entry ticketing. When registering, please select an arrival time that works best for your schedule. Everyone will have until 3:00 PM to participate in the classroom activity.

2026 First Semester Dates
September 16: Maps
Grab your compass and learn about maps and the people who create them.
October 21: History Mystery
Put your detective skills to work as you investigate clues, artifacts, and stories from Idaho’s past. Can you piece together the museum mystery and uncover what really happened?
November 6: Make Your Mark with Artist Aly McKnight
Join us for a special Homeschool Day with artist and illustrator Aly McKnight, an enrolled member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. Aly has illustrated several children’s books, bringing vibrant colors and Native stories to her artwork. Join us at 10:30AM, 11:30AM, or 1:30PM for storytimes as Aly reads some of the books that she has illustrated.
December 4 & 16: Historic Architecture and Engineering
Discover the buildings, bridges, dams, and other structures that tell the story of Idaho’s development.
2027 Second Semester Dates
January 20: Geothermal and Hot Springs
Watch out, this history might be hot! Explore the history and science behind Idaho’s geothermal features and hot springs!
February 5 & 17: State Symbols
Why a potato? What’s so special about the star garnet? Learn how Idaho’s symbols reflect its natural resources, culture, industries, and history. During this Homeschool Day program, activities will take place in the Museum’s Idaho Room.
March 17: Transportation
Buckle up! Discover the different forms of transportation and their impact on the land and the people.
April 21: Pollinators
Even tiny creatures can have a major impact! Learn how bees and other pollinators support Idaho crops.
May 7 & 19: Pioneer Days
Step into the world of Idaho’s pioneers and discover what life was like in Idaho Territory during the 1800s.
