Idaho State Museum Director

The Idaho State Museum, a division of the Idaho State Historical Society, is currently searching for a dynamic and experienced professional to provide visionary and progressive leadership as the Idaho State Museum Director and Administrator.  The successful candidate will oversee the operations of the Museum, build on its success, implement a new collections development plan, collaborate on an agency collections and archives stewardship facility, and continue inspiring exhibitions and programming with the intent of building the agency’s family of members, visitors, and new audiences. 

The director serves on the leadership team of the Idaho State Historical Society and reports to its executive director. They will be responsible for leading and managing the operation, programming, collections and staff of the Idaho State Museum and the Capitol Curation program.  This includes oversight in the areas of strategic planning, staffing, business and operations management, museology and collections management, education and visitor services, revenue enhancement, and promotion.

The Idaho State Historical Society offers a limited number of internships to advanced undergraduate and graduate students. Students interested in gaining professional experience in a cultural institution environment have a unique opportunity to work directly with museum, archives, preservation, historic sites, marketing and public relations professionals and participate in structured opportunities to learn.
