Captivating Conversations: Quarrying Sandstone
Join the Old Idaho Penitentiary staff for a Captivating Conversation with Old Idaho Penitentiary historian and tour guide Eric Overzet, featuring a brief history of the Table Rock quarry and sandstone used for construction at the Idaho State Penitentiary.
Eric Overzet is a historian of early America who graduated from Boise State University in 2016. The quarry at Table Rock played a large part in the economic and architectural history of Boise. The sandstone mined from the quarry was used throughout the city, including the Idaho State Capitol Building, and as far away as the Harkness Tower at Yale University in Connecticut.
This event is FREE. Pre-register online, or arrive at the Old Idaho Penitentiary by 6:30 pm on Friday, February 10, 2023.
Event: Friday, February 10, 2023. Doors open at 6:00 pm, presentation begins at 6:30 pm. Site closes at 8:00 pm. Arrive early to explore the site, and grab complimentary refreshments before the conversation begins.
“Captivating Conversations” is an ongoing lecture series, hosted by the Old Idaho Penitentiary and featuring a variety of guest speakers and topics ranging from the history of the Idaho State Penitentiary to the issues facing correctional institutions today.
