Certified Local Government Grants

One of the biggest benefits of the program is the CLG Grant program. Communities use these grants for a wide range of projects including: surveys, National Register nominations, preservation planning resources, and even some bricks-and-mortar projects. In recent years, the Idaho SHPO has distributed over $100,000 annually to CLGs. Because of the CLG program, over $2 million dollars have been injected directly into local communities since 1983.

FY2026 Grant Applications

The Idaho State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), a division of the Idaho State Historical Society (ISHS), is pleased to announce that we are now accepting Certified Local Government (CLG) Grant applications for FY26! We expect federal funds available for FY26 will remain level, which means we anticipate a total of approximately $100,000 will be granted to Idaho’s 40 local partners. This represents 10% of the total funds available to Idaho through the historic Preservation Fund from the National Park Service (NPS) and the Department of the Interior. FY26 Grant Applications are due January 31, 2026. For more information about grants, please contact CLG Coordinator Alexis Matrone, alexis.matrone@ishs.idaho.gov.
