Día de los Muertos Community Day

On November 1st and 2nd, people throughout Latin America and the U.S. celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This culturally significant holiday acknowledges and celebrates deceased loved ones. Ofrendas (altars) decked with cempazuchitl (marigolds), calaveras (skulls), velas (candles), and favorite food and belongings of the dead serve as a focal point for the living to honor those that came before them. Idahoans of Hispanic descent continue these traditions annually with gatherings that include dance, song, and celebrations of life.

Join the Idaho State Museum on October 23rd from 10am-5pm for an early Día de los Muertos community celebration. Enjoy screenings of Disney Pixar’s Coco at 10:30am (in English) and at 1pm (in Spanish) and family activities showcasing traditional crafts from multiple Latin American cultures. All family activities are included in the regular admission price of the Museum.

Pre-registration is required for the Coco screenings. Cost of museum admission is included in your registration; space is limited to the first 100 registrants.

The Idaho State Museum is following current CDC guidance related to masking and physical distancing. Face coverings are required for all public and educational programs in the Classroom and Idaho Room regardless of vaccination status.
