Nuestras Voces: El legado de Jesse y Maria Berain

El Idaho State Museum, como parte de su programación mensual Nuestras Voces, está presentando un panel virtual en español centrado en la vida y el legado de los líderes hispanos pioneros Jesse Sanchez Berain y Maria Andrea Berain. Únete al personal del Idaho State Museum y a Lisa Sanchez, Miembro del Concejo Municipal de Boise, Dan Ramirez, Gerente de distrito y gerente de programas del Departamento de Servicios Humanos del estado de Oregon y Ana Maria Schachtell, Educadora y Activista Cultural para rendir homenaje a sus vidas y a sus servicios por la comunidad.

Tanto Jesse como Maria fallecieron en la primavera del 2021 con tan solo unas semanas de diferencia. Ambos pilares en la comunidad hispana de Idaho, dijo Lisa Sánchez, “Fueron verdaderos líderes comunitarios que nos dieron todo lo que pudieron durante el mayor tiempo que pudieron”. Jesse Sanchez Berain sirvió en la Legislatura y fue el primer Director de la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de Idaho. Ambos dejaron un legado a todos los habitantes de Idaho. Nuestras Voces: The Legacies of Jesse and Maria Berain

The Idaho State Museum, as part of its monthly Nuestras Voces (Our Voices) programming, is hosting a virtual presentation in Spanish focused on the life and legacy of trailblazing Hispanic leaders Jesse Sanchez Berain and Maria Andrea Berain. Join Idaho State Museum staff and Lisa Sanchez, Boise City Council Member, Dan Ramirez, District Manager and Program Manager for the Department of Human Services in the state of Oregon, and Ana Maria Schachtell, Educator and Cultural Activist in paying tribute to their lives of service.

Both Jesse and Maria passed away in Spring 2021 within weeks of one another. Both pillars in Idaho’s Hispanic Community, Lisa Sanchez stated, “They were true community leaders who gave us all that they could for as long as they could.” Jesse Sanchez Berain served in the Legislature and was the first Director of the Idaho Human Rights Commission. Both left a legacy to all Idahoans. Visitors can find these stories featured in the Idaho State Museum “Stories from Idaho” Gallery.

The free event is scheduled for August 26th, starting at 6 pm. The hour-long presentation is presented in Spanish.
