Highlights from Idaho Day 2018

Thank you to everyone who participated! 2018 is In honor of the 100th Anniversary of WWI Armistice and all Idaho Veterans who have served. You could share with the following hashtags:

Across the state:

  • Blaine County Historical Museum (BCHM) was open on March 5th from noon-6:00pm as part of Idaho Day.  
  • Bonneville County Heritage Association (BCHA) sponsored a free public Idaho Day celebration on March 5th at the Colonial Theater at 7:00 pm. The theme was Idaho Remembers World War I but Idaho veterans from all wars were honored. School children were awarded prizes, a special youth choir performed, and Jim Jones, the former Chief Justice of the Idaho Supreme Court was honored.
  • All active-duty and veterans had free addmission on Saturday, March 3, and Sunday, March 4, at the Old Idaho Penitentiary, as part of the Idaho Day celebration of our service men and women. The site is open 12 pm - 5pm with last asmisison at 4:15pm.

  • The World War I Centennial Commission of Idaho hosted a WWI Headstone guided tour at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm. The event was free and open to the public.

In the Idaho Statehouse, both the Senate and House Chambers recognized Idaho Day with special programs. In the Lincoln Auditorium the public enjoyed a program hosted by KTVB's Doug Petcash, with:

  • Proclamation reading by Lt. Governor Brad Little

  • Idaho National Guard Honor Guard

  • 25th Army Band

  • Bugler from the Navy Operational Support Center Boise

  • Highlands Elementar

  • and special speakers Idaho Secretary of State Lawrence Denney and Josh White

Displays and Idaho Day schools projects were on exhibit on the First Floor Rotunda.
