Idaho State Archives and the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP)
The National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) is a partnership between the Library of Congress (LC) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to digitize Americaâs historic newspapers published between 1690 and 1960. More than 11.6 million pages are available and keyword searchable on the Chronicling America website. The NDNP is a long-term effort to provide permanent access to a national digital resource of newspaper bibliographic information and historic newspapers.
Idaho has recently been awarded its second, 2-year grant cycle by the NEH to increase Idahoâs contribution to the NDNP database to 200,000 images of historical newsprint pages. To date, Idaho has digitized 39 newspaper titles spanning across all of Idaho. A committee of persons from the general public, academia, special collection libraries, trustees of the Idaho State Historical Society and an Idaho state archivist selected newspapers with the highest research value to digitize.
